September 9^th 2008 - Foreigners 'prop up' Universities The UK's universities are increasingly being propped up by income from foreign students, a report shows. September 9^th 2008 - Learning Partnerships Working Education inspectors say there is generally good collaboration between schools and colleges in England in reforming teenagers' learning. An Ofsted report said progress was good in 12 of 16 local authorities visited between April 2007 and March this year. September 9^th 2008 - Student Growth Risks widening Gap The number of students entering university has increased by 50% in a decade across industrialised countries, says a major annual survey. September 6^th 2008 - University funding is 'creaking' The National Union of Students says England's system for funding higher education is unfair and reinforces existing social inequality. September 5^th 2008 - Student Debt could top 17,000 pounds Students who started university in the UK last year can expect to owe more than £17,500 by the time they leave, according to an annual poll on debt. The Push survey of 2,000 students also suggests that the average debt tops £4,500 for each year of study - nearly 10% more than last year. About 15 students in Nigeria have been sent fraudulent degree offer letters purporting to be from Liverpool Hope University. August 18^th 2008 - On a new Course THE UK government has recently announced plans for the new student visa system under its overall Points Based System (PBS). Student visas will now be known as Tier 4. Immigration authorities in the UK feel that the new system will be more transparent and will simplify the immigration rules for genuine students and education providers.
